Better memory consumption for Windows 8 and its following versions

02/09/2015

When using VMware, games or applications to Swap there is a risk that your equipment uses 100% HD access and sometimes 100% of RAM. A standard Windows 8 functionality allows to set as default in services, the “Windows Search” and, in the disc property, indexing files and automatic defragmentation.

You can prevent this by performing a few simple actions. See below.

  1. Press “Windows” + “R”.
  2. Type “services.msc”.
  3. Find “Windows Search”.
  4. Double click.
  5. Click “Stop”.
  6. In the Startup select “Disabled”.
  7. Aply and click “OK”.
  8. Clear “Allow files of this unit…“.
  9. Select “Apply the changes to the unit, subfolders and files” and click “OK”. For all errors, click ignore all.
  10. Disable the HD indexing options: go to “My Computer” > “HD Property”, clear “Compress this drive…” and “Allow files…”.
  11. Restart computer.
